The British Blanket Company (TBBC) was founded in 2015 by brother-sister duo Bethan and Joe with the mission of bringing colour and cosiness to everyone around the world. Their passion for British heritage is why every single one of their blankets and scarves are made in historic mills in the British Isles. Their business helps ensure that the traditional art of weaving continues to thrive and be passed down through the generations. In just seven short years they have launched over 150 different blanket designs, offering the best selection of blankets online and were awarded Family Business of the Year in 2019. In spite of this the pair were struggling to take that next step.

The British Blanket Company was ready to take the next step, they wanted to scale their business and online presence in a way which reflected their values and personality. With so much potential, they wanted an eCommerce partner to help with a growth strategy to meet their goals.

The Challenge

We all know growth isn’t as simple as just investing more, sitting back, and  watching your business grow. We knew that we needed to use data to guide our decisions and pinpoint where the growth opportunities, and challenges were. This is where the Gross Demand Plan comes into play, a fully fledged retail management tool that can navigate the unchartered waters of growth for eCommerce brands. The full roadmap of the GDP would work out exactly how much TBBC needed to invest in order to achieve the growth they desired, giving them weekly targets and actionable steps to reach their goals.

The Solution

We needed to focus on four key areas:

  • Creating a bespoke financial plan - a GDP (Gross Demand Plan)
  • Performing a full audit of their eCommerce business
  • Producing a marketing strategy informed by points one and two
  • Setting up and optimising their paid and owned channels for growth

We drew on our team of eCommerce experts to carry out a full Mobius Audit, Giving TBBC insight into the eight key areas essential for eCommerce growth: website & site speed, SEO strategy, brand & messaging, sustainability, accessibility, eCommerce data, digital marketing mix and digital channel set-up. Our Mobius Audits identify, not only where a brand has potential for growth, but what challenges they might be facing. Both of which help us to determine where our attention needs to be focused.

Running alongside the audit was the creation of their bespoke Gross Demand Plan™. Growth requires strategy and when you don’t use data driven solutions to achieve it, you might not be left with the desired results. The GDP uses sales targets combined with all financial and marketing data to build a blueprint for growth. 

All of this informed the production of a digital marketing roadmap for The British Blanket Company with objectives, goals and key initiatives for each quarter. The roadmap outlined a strategy of growth for them across their paid and owned channels. We used this data backed strategy to set up and optimise both of these channels for growth.

The British Blanket Company is on our Mobius Membership and we are working with them in 90-day cycles. At the beginning of each cycle we review the previous quarter and make strategic decisions on the next phase of activity.
