Hexby is a British online retailer of farm-ready clothing, selling a range of both vibrant sports and leisure wear, and hard-wearing workwear. Having significantly grown the presence of their business by attending trade shows, conventions, and expos, where they would sell their products in person, Hexby were looking to further grow by expanding their eCommerce offering.
Having started the online leg of their business with a self-built Wix eCommerce Site, we would be helping Hexby by moving to Shopify, and capitalising on the wealth of opportunities for their business along the way.

The Challenge
Wrangling together a move from Wix to Shopify
Despite Shopify marketing itself as the eCommerce platform for entrepreneurs, platforms like Wix & Squarespace have largely cornered the “easy website builder” market. Hexby, having no idea how successful their business would prove to be, chose to build their website on Wix eCommerce, but as demand soared, they knew it was time to level up.
The specific task of migrating from Wix to Shopify brought its own set of challenges. Exporting orders, products, and customer data isn’t as straightforward as it is with other eCommerce platforms like Magento or BigCommerce, and requires a more careful and structured approach to ensure nothing gets lost in the transition.
Moving to Shopify would give Hexby a platform that not only showcased their growing success, but resonated with their audience by putting their products and their community front and center, such as their star product the harlequin shorts. Rocking a bold and vibrant design, the different variations of Hexby’s Harlequin Shorts had become the driving force behind their rapid success. It was therefore essential that this product took a central position on the new site, whilst offering enough variety to allow other products to shine too.
However, the best eCommerce sites don’t just act as product libraries, but as celebrations of a brand and its personality. Hexby’s new site needed to highlight their unique selling points, the key events they’d be attending, and the vibrant Hexby community - bringing it all together to create a digital space that felt as dynamic as the Hexby brand itself.

The Solution
Corralling our teams to succeed together.
To overcome the challenges in migrating from Wix eCommerce to Shopify, our development team built a number of custom scripts to handle the exports of orders, customers, and product data, which ensured a smooth transition from Wix to Shopify.
With 93% of Hexby’s traffic coming from mobile, it was essential that we took a mobile-first approach to designing Hexby’s new Shopify site. As a result, the new site crafts a user experience that puts usability front and center. On product pages, we introduced feature blocks, giving Hexby a way to highlight the standout details of each product in a clear, design-led format that would resonate with their audience.
The finished product was a Shopify store built for growth. The new Shopify site is designed to showcase Hexby’s unique personality while delivering a seamless shopping experience for their loyal community.

The Outcome
With an all new Shopify site, not only does Hexby have a site befitting of their brand and product quality, but their business has a hub that can scale with them.
