In a competitive and increasingly popular market, Volcano wanted to ensure the consumer was at the heart of the brand and democratise coffee, making it accessible to everyone in a user friendly way that educated the curious coffee customer and benefitted the client’s goals of establishing themselves in the B2C market.

The Challenge
A subscription-first focus was fundamental to the company’s business goals and targets to help increase customer retention and remain competitive. Other essentials included translating Volcano’s new brand look and feel to the website, ensuring the product’s features such as Coffee flavours and strength were clearly highlighted throughout the user experience and implementing additional functionality such as gifting functionality, refer a friend promotions, and upsell opportunities across the site to enhance the customer experience.

The Solution
Through collaborative scoping sessions with the brand, extensive competitor research and prototype testing, we mapped out core user journeys leading to the development of a distinctive quiz-like subscription builder, guiding the user through a series of four stages and questions to determine the right coffee product to suit them.
Aiding in the education of Volcano’s products, we added the Coffee’s tasting notes and strength onto the product cards through visual indicators and ensured the product and brand remained the core focus of their Shopify site whilst optimising the transactional journey.
Throughout the project stages of discovery, design and development, a clear focus on meeting the users needs remained; solving pain points and making the enhanced D2C site as simple and enjoyable as possible to reach their customer's goal whether that’s setting up a subscription, learning more about coffee or sending a gift.
