Please read if you've been approached by Cake Agency Limited. They are not in any way connected to us and are trying to scam you....
We have been made aware of a serious scam that involves a company pretending to be Cake Agency. The scam is attempting to recruit individuals under the guise of offering a weekly salary to 'optimise products'.
In return for optimising products, you start by getting small weekly payments. It is unclear to us at this stage how the scam plays out as we are not victims ourselves, but, at some point they ask you to start making deposits into an account and they promise to pay you back plus the commissions you are 'earning' through your product optimisation.
But sadly the money is never returned...
The fraudsters have made a considerable effort to look legitimate, but on closer inspection you can see that the paperwork does not connect.
Sadly they have lifted all of our branding and colour scheme so that on first appearance they look like they are part of the real Cake Agency. There is nothing we can do to stop them doing this. If you are directed to a website as shown in the hero graphic of this blog to set up an account then this is the first step of the scam.
Cake Agency Limited, registered at Company House with number 14341085, has one director called Hamdi Harbaoui and was incorporated on 7th September with a registered office in the Picadilly Business Centre in Manchester.
Cake Agency is actually owned by Apex Ecommerce Limited with company number 08533799 and we were incorporated 10 years ago in 2013. You will also see that the owners and Directors of Apex eCommerce Limited are Chris (me!) & Cheryl Thomas.
Cake Agency is an eCommerce agency that develops websites, performs digital marketing and branding and all of our employees are based at our head office in Birmingham. We do not employee anyone remotely or on a weekly 'gig' to perform copywriting tasks on behalf of our clients. And we will never ask you to pay us any money on the promise of a greater payback.
The more people that report the scam to the authorities the greater the chance these scammers will be brought to justice.
If you have been approached we ask you do to 2 things!
1) Report the website address that you have been directed to. It is usually "cake-[something].com". To report the abuse go to gname.com/abuse and report the website as conducting "illegal activites"
2) Please make a report to Action Fraud on their website : actionfraud.police.uk - When you make your report please quote case number NFRC230806114896 so that all related cases can be associated together.
We are working as closely as we can with authorities, since June of 2023, to get this operation shut down. The police need as many data points as possible to connect their operation together and we are told they already have a clear profile of it and that they are close to them We sincerely hope that National Cyber Crime Centre along with the Police can do the work necessary to bring them to justice.
What we can do together though in the meantime is spread the word as far as we can so that fewer and fewer people get caught up in this scam and make their illegal venture a waste of time.
In an ideal world we will see them behind bars one day in the near future.
Stay safe
Christopher Thomas
CEO of The Real Cake Agency.
