Biography

Be it bin bags, rum, or pine log cabins, Digital Designer Jess has certainly been asked to keep her mind flexible, and adapt her skill set throughout the course of her career so far.

Craving progression and a design challenge above all else, it seems fitting that, as a designer, Jess’ biggest hobby is branding. But, when she’s not split between branding and working on user interface design, you can find Jess hiking up a mountain, taking care of her cats Misty and Minx, or cooking, though probably no two at the same time.

Highlights

Lifting Equipment Store - Shopify Migration

Whilst this was not a huge brand overhaul by any stretch, sometimes, it’s the smaller edits and design changes that are the toughest. Lifting Equipment Store UK needed that final push for their site to be something that truly represented their level of service, and I’m glad that the work we delivered, however minor it might have been, was that push for them, plus, it was a surprisingly fun project to work on too.

Roarsome - Website migration

Getting to work with brands like Roarsome, that already have a fun visual style in place, is always super fun. This was a great project for me to get stuck into as it included all of the aspects of design that I love - fonts, colours, even animation, which I don’t often get the chance to work on.

Trivia

What do you geek out over?

I love anything with a nice bit of type on it, especially when I’m out at restaurants and bars - like, I love a good IPA design, it would help if I actually liked drinking them though. 

How do you get stuck into your work?

Lots of coffee, snacks and a nice lo-fi playlist if I need to crack on, or I’ll opt for a bit of 70’s if it’s something that needs some a little extra seasoning of creativity added to it.

What motivates you to excel in your work?

Definitely snooping on what other people are doing and looking at how they are using the latest tools to stay ahead of the game, whether that be in brand or digital.

What sets Cake apart from other companies in this industry?

To me, it’s the approach that we’re all really eager to find out what the client wants but we’re not afraid to let them know what they actually need, we’re built on 20 years of retail experience after all.

What does your role entail?

Anything and everything needing some creative juice! Typically I work day to day on: 

  • Delivering branding, UX/UI, and design projects for a wide range of our clients
  • Help to facilitate branding workshops and deliver memorable and distinctive branding and visual identities
  • Participate and support with the design of user-centred eCommerce websites, ensuring that all designs are visually appealing, user-friendly, and accessible
  • Prepare final graphics and layouts for print or digital distribution, ensuring that all files are ready for production and meet quality standards
  • Creation of paid social media content concepts and artwork for multiple platforms
