304 Clothing is a streetwear brand offering custom clothing for men, women, and children. The brand aims to provide quality pieces that allow individuals to express their personal style. We were challenged with taking one of the client's best selling products and innovating further to help increase AOV whilst leveraging the on-site customer experience.
We were tasked with building upon one of 304 Clothing’s best selling products by implementing custom development work. The goal was to increase average order value by leveraging the on-site customer experience.

304 Clothing had been trading on Shopify Plus for a few years and wanted to expand their onsite functionality to improve the customer experience - pushing the boundaries of what Shopify could deliver in the process.
304’s Mystery Boxes have been a customer favourite since their introduction and are an integral part of the brand’s customer acquisition strategy. The mystery boxes allow customers to receive multiple items for a set price point, but all the items are a surprise until the order is received.
Despite being a hit with customers, customers couldn’t choose the size of the products, meaning some customers were left frustrated with clothes too big or too small for them.
With our help, 304 Clothing wanted to create a new “Build Your Own Box” product that would give the customer increased control of what products they’d receive.
Whilst the “Build Your Own” approach would remove the mystery aspect of the product, the new product allowed customers to build a full outfit for themselves at a compelling price point. The goal was to increase the average order value of the site by encouraging users to shop for a full outfit at a discounted price rather than buying individual products.
To ensure the success of the build your own box experience, we conducted user testing on a prototype to gather feedback on the user journey. We spoke to a number of different users who fell into the 304 Clothing.target audience to evaluate the overall experience and to identify any areas for improvement. This allowed us to make any necessary tweaks to the builder process before launch, which would ensure the user experience was intuitive and ultimately increase the number of conversions.
The “Build Your Own Box” product launched in December 2021, keeping the buzz of 304 Clothing alive after the hustle & bustle of Black Friday promotions, but with enough time left to leverage the gifting season.
With the promise of hand-picked, customised items, 304’s “Build Your Own Box” was an instant success with customers, giving the brand another tool to continue their ecommerce growth!

We already knew 304 Clothing’s existing mystery Boxes fly off the digital shelves, so the Build Your Own Box feature was almost guaranteed to be a hit.
